EVENT INFO

The very 1st Everest Challenge was held in 2013.
This was the hair brained idea of Raymond Funnell (Leukaemia Survivor)
who wished to create an event that would both
promote personal endurance and raise funds for The Sunflower Fund.

Ray dreamed of climbing the Seven highest peaks
whilst in his hospital bed and to date has climbed 4 of these.
The dream of Everest however is one not that many Average Joe's
will see to reality in their lifetime.

The Challenge was then brought to life, with the idea of climbing sets of  the well known  Westcliff Stairs sets of stairs in the heart of Westcliff's Suburban Neighborhood, ultimately reaching the height of Everest in altitude gain over the set event duration. Its a grueling task and not for the fainthearted.
Athletes are encouraged to be averaging 6- 8 minutes a rep
(both up and down in order to complete the task within the time limit).

All profits from the EVEREST CHALLENGE event assists The Sunflower Fund in building The Sunflower Fund Stem Cell Registry so individuals diagnosed with Leukaemia or other life threatening blood diseases
can find donor matches as quickly and cost effectively as possible.
Spreading HOPE and a CHANCE at survival.
